WOYWW - gems, zebra and a bit of research


Here are the results of waking up at 1.30am yesterday morning and not being able to get back to sleep as I had to be up at 4am for my train to London.  It's my lino and eraser carving for my day 3 zebra journal page . The result of this lack of sleep followed by a long train journey, a busy morning training teachers, a busy afternoon looking at gorgeous illustrations (including some Oliver Jeffers' ones which was a fabulous surprise)


... and mooching around Piccadilly in London was that I fell asleep on the train home (despite your good wishes and hopes Helen!)  To the extent that the train got in at 10.50pm, and I was woken by some very kind lads at 11.10pm who tapped me on my shoulder and just said 'Manchester Piccadilly'!  How sweet were they!  I heard them haring down the train, very noisily, then one of them say "shall we wake her up?" I'm so glad they did!!!


My workdesk also features the contents of my pocket after a trip to a restoration yard which I emptied onto my table before travelling to London!!!


And finally, this is my printed out research for this month's Sketchbook Challenge.  Jill Berry set this month's theme of 'HiGHLY PRiZeD' and referred to the work of Sister Corita Kent who I had never heard of so immediately looked up!  These images will go into my sketchbook as part of the challenge, I've just not cut them up yet!

I do like WOYWW.  It's a bit diary like, but in a format that works for me ;)  If you'd like to see what other people are up to, head on over to The Stamping Ground where you will find many other people who happily share their workspaces each Wednesday :)  Mine's a late entry as I slept looooooooooooooooong today I am very happy to say :)

    Like the carving....got myself some of the tools but have not got the stuff to carve yet!! LOL

  3. Hi Sarah. A very Happy New Year to you and yours. I just love stopping by your Blog, there is always so much interesting stuff going on. Your Zebra pages are stunning and well done on starting the calander again. I'd be rubbish at this, Journalling Christmas is the hardest thing I do all year and I never finish it until the end of January!!!!
    Your day in London sounds great. Just shows there are some kind folk out there!!

    Laughed out loud at the picture of you being woken on the train by young lads! Good job Manchester was the last stop or you could have been in Glasgow!!!

  7. I was always glad when I got the train that terminates at my stop and not the one that goes all the way to Leeds. Trains just send me to sleep!

  12. Really interesting post Sarah. I love all your art work. Those boys did you a great favour. I once got on a train home from Ambleside...on the way to Scotland...should have been heading for Liverpool. Lady got off at Lockerbie and phoned home for me; before the days of mobiles. You could have been in for a long journey home.

    These zebra pages are a triumph - especially ifyou feel the need to carve at 1.30am..am thinking that it's really got your mojo going!

What a day you had and what a bit of luck for you that the boys did decide to wake you up in Manchester - mention of Piccadilly brings back memories of my daily commute from Chinley to work at UMIST - not missing that commute one bit even though I loved living in the High Peak :) Thanks for sharing.
