After creating a paper template of the seahorse, I rolled out the clay, cut around the template then added the stripes across his body.
I then added texture to his various sections. In some areas I've pressed a shape in eg rubber stamps, pen top lid, a bizarre metal something..., and in others I added bits.
My favourite additions are the tiny bits of stamped clay which feature numerals! I then went on to play around with the clay a bit. I was intending to make an angel based on a cone shape but ended up with a slam pot! [that's what gives it the wrinkles down near the base, a good slam on the table]
It's a bit odd looking, but I like it :)
There's all sorts of great work going on for Art Every Day Month and you can find the links here. I've met lots of new people already :)
Fabulous pieces from clay Sarah, very creative. Tracy x
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! How great that you can take your ideas and do them in different mediums!
ReplyDeleteLove them both, Sarah but the seahorse with all his texture is wonderful. Can't wait to see how he turns out when he's finished x
ReplyDeleteThey're both brilliant :)
ReplyDeletemy god Sarah - yet another talent - working with clay! love the texture on the seahorse and the shape of your pot is fab.
ReplyDeleteThat seahorse is really cool--love the textures and stamping! It's been a very long time since I've done anything with clay, but you've made my fingers itch ;)
ReplyDeleteOoh! I love the seahorse!
ReplyDeleteVery intriguing, Sarah. I love the way you've added such different textures!
ReplyDeleteGreat textures and lovely work on the sea horse... I had to teach ceramics for years but had forgotten all about some of these sorts of projects... might be time to give them another shot
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my blog:) Such a lovely seahorse. I also love working with clay. You did fantastic job! Niina
ReplyDeleteThe seahorse is fantastic! I have avidly avoided clay since we had to use it in college and I just couldn't make it work for me, using it in this way is inspiring me to give it another chance though...!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I love your seahorse and your slampot. Do you paint them when they are finished? I'd love to see them all painted. Great work! I love clay but have never tried working with it.
ReplyDeletewow, amazing! love your seahorse and the textured details, very cool. And I have to say, that slam pot is REALLY cool! Wow!
ReplyDeleteThe clay numerals are a genious addition to an already magnificent seahorse. I would rather have a slam pot than an angel any day;)
ReplyDeleteBut I anticipate your angel, if you decide to make one... I have nothing against angels, but the wrinkles take the biscuit:)
So glad you listened, when the clay called you...
Gwen xx
