I love twiggy trees like this and would be quite happy with this as a Christmas tree, I'd just add white lights and some silver baubles.

Unfinished!
Sometimes a journal page just sits there for a while ...
...and sometimes that 'while' can be a lonnnnng one! This page started off with some brown spray which sat in my journal for ages. I recently added some blue (love blue and brown together), didn't like it so used my solution to most pages I don't like - white paint/spray through a stencil :)
I love those large circles so complemented them with one of Stampotique's new release images - Daniel's circles. They're stamped over one of my very favourite Stampotique images - numeric.
So now I have a double page spread I love, but is still unfinished...
...and that's okay! It's just the way of art journaling flows.

circles on a journal page
I am very happy with this journal page spread!
It started off as a bit of a rubbish gelli print which I painted over with some turquoise brusho, thinking it might lift it - it did!!
Then I started playing around with Daniel's circles cube from Stampotique
and lots of variety in text and numerals. The background numeral piece is from my scratch paper on my worktable; it's how I clean my stamps - by stamping them repeatedly on scrap paper!!
Add some doodling ... and Sarah is a happy art journaller!!

luxuriant moustaches
I mentioned in my last Stampotique post that I was itching to colour in these cheeky monsters, so that's exactly what I did for this week's project.
I love the idea of boring beige coloured monsters sprouting (or maybe they dye them, maybe it's all a ruse?!!!) fantastically coloured moustaches. The inspiration for the background came from a paper gift bag ...
.. so I started by pasting down strips of brown paper then added some simple pencil lines.
I used watercolour paints to add colour to my monsters ...
... and created some coloured strips of watercolour paper whilst I had the paints out.
After colouring my monsters and cutting them out, I stamped them a number of times so I could cut out the moustaches.
There was a lot of fussy cutting involved with this page, but then, that's ideal when you've got your feet up post op!!

smitten moustache monsters
I just LoVe Kira Nichols' smitten moustache monsters so decided to have a play around with them in one of my journals. They have so much potential though that I know I'll be using them again!! [I so want to colour in their moustaches but decided this page had enough colour!!]
I appear to have a good collection of love-themed stampotique stamps! After spraying my page with Dylusions inks, and splashing some water on them and dabbing it off, I stamped 'metal love' three times, thinking of the Beatles song 'all you need is love'! I then repeatedly stamped the heart from the top of 'Oh...Tree' because I couldn't find my 'Daniel's hearts' stamp ...
... then found it and went to town with looooooooooooooads more hearts!! I had a good time colouring some of them in with my watercolour pencils.
The smitten moustache monsters have been stamped on top of the words and then I stamped them onto paper too and cut them out - it's just a good way of keeping the little details that are impossible to cut out (like the curly ends of moustaches!!)

a touch of art journaling
I hope you've enjoyed the Stampotique blog hop; it's still open for another few days if you've not had chance to join in yet. I've continued to enjoy playing with the new stamps and this time decided to make a journal page.
One of France's new stamps says
so I decided to use this as a challenge for a page. I can't say I pushed myself out of my comfort zone with my colour choices, but I did by
- stamping the words and phrases 'cockeyed' rather than vertical or horizontal
- adding doodled marks
- using different inks which blotched and didn't blend in, and leaving them on the page rather than trying to blend them in
I wasn't sure about this page at first but it's growing on me ;) What would you do to move outside your comfort zone in the projects you make? I'd love to know.

just being u isn't always easy
It's not always easy to be yourself. We worry about what people will think of us so choose what to portray and what not to....
... I got quite philosophical whilst making this simple scrapling for Stampotique this week!!! Such a simple sentiment on the surface but it really got me thinking.
This week I've left the instructions over on the Stampotique Designer's blog, alongside my fellow designers, three of whom also used this stamp!

a little journal page
Doesn't she just look like she's contemplating something as she handles her spider like a yoyo?! I wonder what it is!
I just love spider girl. I've left the details on how I made this mini page over on the Stampotique Designer's Blog but thought people in the UK may be interested to see this little bargain from Hobbycraft
I made my own page as part of a little journal I'm making up myself, then went to Hobbycraft tonight, found these journals for just £1...and was surprised at how close in size it was to the pages I'd cut.
Of course, I had to buy one!

a little book
I smooshed paint, stenciled and stamped both sides of the tag, which I'd pre-folded ..
... and after adding some 'shrooms', discovered that I'd put them on upside down. Hmm, make a backwards book or ...???
Now the book has additional texture :)
I used pamphlet stitch to add the pages inside, and a ribbon long enough to tie around the book to keep it closed.
All in all a very happy couple of hours, and a gift in the post to a friend. Hope you've had a lovely evening and have time for some creative craftiness this weekend.

Inspired by ...
.. a new journal, and a challenge!
I've been struggling a bit with my journal recently. Mainly because working in a larger format I'm trying to create my own main images for the pages as I have few stamps big enough, and I also want to stretch myself and practise my drawing skills. Sometimes, though, it's good to get back in your comfort zone.
So I decided to respond to Stampotique's 2014 design team call (my stamps are organised by theme EXCEPT for my Stampotique ones, I keep them altogether as I love them so much and they co-ordinate with each other so well) and got out one of my favourite stamps - Mushroom Group
Earlier this week I sewed some bunting for school and enjoyed it so much I decided I wanted to do something 'textiley' with my Stampotique stamps. After stamping on some white felt, just with a black versamark as it's just a guide, I used a needle felting tool to add some wool before outlining the mushrooms on the sewing machine
I trimmed them, added some stamping and some distress ink to a tag then sewed on the mushrooms.
I googled 'mushroom quotes' and discovered this one,
"I am a mushroom on whom the dew of heaven drops now and then"
John Ford
so put my tag in the typewriter and added it.
Then I used some diamond glaze to add drops of 'dew' to the tag, to the top of the largest mushroom and to adhere the tiny beads.
Not ready to stop I reached for a small journal and found one I bought a long while ago that looks like a paperback book (possibly purchased from Waterstones)
Inside I used more distress ink and added some stamping and stenciling...
I LoVe this size of this journal, and it contains great paper so I'll definitely be using it some more :)

Stampotique's design call finishes tomorrow so there's still time to apply. I thought I'd apply as Stampotique images are my 'go to' stamps and I love how I can use them for collage, in textile work, on my journal pages, on tags... They make me happy!!! Stampotique ask you to describe your style - hmm, not sure what mine is - 'eclectic' springs to mind!! I love the challenge of being on a design team - it keeps you producing work on a regular basis, encourages you to visit many blogs (as you leave comments re challenges), and brings new friends .... so fingers crossed!! It's been a while now since I was on the Play Date Cafe design team. I've been a guest artist for the Artistic Stamper and been published in Art Journaling, Somerset Studio and Stampers Sampler.
