PDCC83 a sweet farewell EDITED

...although a rather sad one!  I've not been able to play along in the Play Date Cafe for a few weeks now, since starting my new job, so the time has come to step down and say goodbye.  

I LoVe this image that Julie chose for my last week.  We've been in this together right from the start so it's not an easy goodbye to say but it's been a ball, and I'm hoping I can call in every now and again and play along!

I was going to do a journal page but when I saw these tiny birdhouses in Dunelm Mill I decided I just had to have one (well, five to be honest!).    As it's colour splash week I chose to use black and white on the birdhouse and use the bird as the splash of colour.

I used my favourite punches to decorate the birdhouse...

...and the tiny bird is made from felt :)

I am honoured to have been part of such a fabulously talented team over at The Play Date Cafe and know that the friendships we've built will continue for a long time to come.

EDIT: Now the girls surprised me with both a blog hop (which ends here so welcome blog hoppers!!!) and their choice of their favourite piece from my time at the PDCC.   What a wonderful, wonderful design team.  You made me cry, but thanks everyone!!  There's no way I could choose a favourite PDCC project, there are so many I LoVe.  The PDCC has challenged me to stretch my creativity in many different directions, and it is one of the many things I love about this challenge - I could make whatever I felt like, even cakes!!!  But Colour Splashes are my very favourite :)

Where on earth did the last week go?!!!  I can't believe I've not got to the computer for a whole week...too much work, that's the trouble!  It's play date time again and this week it's colour splash time...that seems to have come around quickly too ;)

This lilac rose really caught my eye, and I realised that although I like purple/lilac, it isn't a colour I use very often in my artwork.  I also decided to challenge myself to use black lace and stitching against a white background rather than vice versa.  This has meant lots of hunting for suitable materials, which ended successfully in the charity shop with a lacy jumper!

I created a tiny flag book [7cmx6cm] in matchbook style, decorating each page with scraps of paper and lace and some 'useful facts' I gleaned from the only white paged book on my bookshelf - most of them are on the creamy, old side!

Apparently our New Year didn't start on the 1st Jan until 1700 and something!  Up until then it was the 24th March.

a steampunk wedding at the Play Date Cafe

This week we've been sponsored by Creative Cuts, who sent the whole team a collection of wedding themed die cuts.  And it's a colour splash week, which was great for a wedding theme.  Just look at the colours Julie chose:

This week you get to choose your 'splash' colour from pink, copper or gold.  I was going to turn my cake box into something with legs etc but then discovered that Steampunk Weddings are happening out in the wedding world (and there are some cool ideas out there, just google 'steampunk wedding' for some fab images!) so decided to go with that as a useable theme.

The cake boxes fit together (if you have enough of them!) to make a whole cake so I co-ordinated them to work in this way.  I cuttlebugged the boxes and added zips, lace, cuttlebugged copper and stamped clocks and butterflies.

The butterfly is by Memory Box, and the clocks by The Artistic Stamper.

The wedding card came as a blank white card with the die cut edge and dress shaped aperture.  I put the cuttlebugged copper sheet behind the aperture, and added the pearls, then sewed lace and zip along the fold.  The 7 gypsies paper inside and the snap fasteners are elements I only added because the colour challenge is 'black and white with a splash of ...', but I'm glad I did.  That's the great thing about challenges, sometimes you end up doing things you wouldn't otherwise do!

it's colour splash time again at the Play Date Cafe #40

And this time our additional splash of colour is GREEN!  We've not ventured around to this side of the colour wheel in colour splash before, and when I went hunting for an inspirational photo, I fell in love with this image!

How gorgeous is that fabric?  So your challenge this week is to make a black and white piece (be it a card, ATC, canvas, journal page, scrapbook layout....) with just a splash of green.

We're sponsored this week by Memory Box who make some stunning stamps.  Every member of the design team were thrilled to receive two butterfly images.

I layered papers, and stitched around them, adding detail to the word 'inspire' by stamping it in green.  I used the small butterfly image inside, which co-ordinated beautifully with the flock paper I found in my stash.

The 'Inspire butterfly collage' has incredibly tiny text in the background (I LoVe text!) so I tore a rectangle to layer under the small butterfly inside the card.
